What I forgot was how much I usually do during the day so I can have that grown up time! Running errands, cleaning, meal prep...all of this is now either crammed in my too-short mornings, or that two hour window at night. The time I get with my little guy should be play/fun time!
Funny story, my second day back at work, I picked up Levi around 4 from daycare (an awesome in-home daycare run by a friend). We got home, I gave him a snack, tossed Curious George on the TV, and went to clean the bathroom, my Wednesday chore. As I was on my hands and knees wiping the grout around the tub, he toddled into the room, took the rag out of my hand, and sat in my lap. I melted. We went back into the living room and snuggled on the couch for about an hour. I'll do my cleaning at night.
So my decluttering project has taken a back seat. Even though it's only 15 minutes a day (30 if you include photographs, Craigslist postings or donation box drop offs, and blog writing), it's hard to squeeze it in between cleaning, dissertating, and all my other work. Oh yeah, and I also do wedding flowers, so I spent last evening running around town looking for white spray roses. And making a sample bouquet and contract...
Anywho, that's my huge list of excuses as to why I haven't been posting!
The good news is that I'm still ahead of my goal of 40 bags in 40 days! During Levi's naptime on Sunday, we started cleaning out the garage. Although it's far from done, we got the extra freezer hooked up, cleared a path, threw away 3 boxes of stuff, and created a "garage sale" corner with a few more boxes, plus all of the things that haven't sold on Craigslist. I'm done chasing people around the world...we're having a garage sale on Memorial Day weekend!
So the count now is: 12 bags/boxes donated, 9 sold (or to be sold), 8 thrown away, 3 returned to their rightful owners, and 1 passed on to a friend. total: 33 boxes or bags out of my house. And one tin of dog ashes. There are 13 days remaining in Lent, so I'm still on track!
No worries, we still have more things to get rid of. It's addicting. I can look around the room right now and see more and more stuff that we don't need, want, or use. Extra blankets, an ugly football trophy DVDs, etc.
So after Lent, where will I be? My house will be emptier, lighter, and free-er, but I can guarantee there will still be more to get rid of. Do I do one big clear out? Or piece by piece? I actually feel like I need an ongoing project so it doesn't all pile up again, so I'm considering doing a bag a week after Easter. Do-able, not overwhelming, but hopefully keeping the tide of stuff leaving the house stronger than what is coming in.
